Renewed, Not Spiraled

Studies show that we have over 60,000 thoughts a day (yeah, read that again)—and many of them are repetitive and negative. No wonder our minds feel exhausted before the day even begins. We’re constantly processing, worrying, replaying conversations, googling symptoms, and preparing for worst-case scenarios… often without realizing how heavy that mental load has become.

Lately, I joke with my husband that Chatty (what we call ChatGPT) has officially become our PCP and our veterinarian. A sore throat? I’m researching. A weird symptom? I’m spiraling. Something feels “off”? I’m three tabs deep convincing myself it’s the worst-case scenario. And while information can be helpful, I’ve realized how quickly it can send my mind into fear instead of faith—when what I really need to do is stop, breathe, and trust God.

A worn-out mindset doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes it looks like snapping over something small, feeling unmotivated, or assuming the worst before anything even happens. It’s overthinking every decision, comparing yourself to others, or feeling behind no matter how much you do. It’s a quiet mental heaviness that settles in when we let our thoughts run unchecked.

Romans 12:2 says,"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think" God doesn’t just want to manage our behavior—He wants to renew the way we think. Because our thoughts shape our emotions, our reactions, and how we see ourselves and our circumstances. Renewal begins when we allow God to interrupt the fear-based patterns our minds default to.

A renewed mindset doesn’t mean you never have anxious or intrusive thoughts—it means you don’t let them lead. It’s choosing trust over fear, truth over assumption, and peace over panic. When we bring our spiraling thoughts to God, He gently replaces what’s draining us with what’s grounding. He reminds us that we are not alone, not forgotten, and not required to figure everything out on our own.

Mind renewal is a daily practice—sometimes moment by moment. It’s catching yourself mid-spiral and saying, “God, I trust You more than my thoughts right now.” It’s closing the tabs, quieting the noise, and handing control back to Him. If your mind feels tired today, hear this: God isn’t disappointed in you—He’s inviting you to trust Him and be renewed.

SHE Walks in Faith

Notice one thought recently that immediately jumps to the worst-case scenario. Pause, take a breath, and intentionally replace it with trust—remind yourself of God’s faithfulness and speak His truth over the situation.

I’ll go first.

I travel for work the first of March, and I’m already spiraling a little. I love to travel—but there is nothing I dislike more than traveling alone. And my mind doesn’t just go to “what if I miss my flight?” No, it goes straight to what if my Uber driver from the airport to the hotel is a serial killer? It used to be bad. I’d land, check into my room, and then call my husband at 1 a.m., wide awake, spiraling because my mind was in 500 different places. And let me tell you… the times he didn’t answer? Oh man. That spiral got louder.

But something has changed.I’ve changed how I travel. Now, I talk to God the entire trip—from the flight, to the Uber ride, to the hotel check-in. I talk to Him when I’m nervous, when my mind starts racing, when I feel uneasy. I ask Him to replace fear with truth in real time. And guess what? I was in New York City just a few months ago, by myself… and I went to see The Lion King on Broadway—solo. Yep. Me. Alone. In NYC.

The confidence I’ve gained by asking God to interrupt my spiraling thoughts and replace them with truth has given me so much freedom. Not because nothing could go wrong—but because I finally trust Who is with me no matter what. That’s the power of a renewed mind. Not the absence of fear—but the presence of trust.

🩷 Prayer

God, my mind runs ahead of my faith sometimes. I overthink, assume the worst, and forget to trust You. Help me pause when my thoughts spiral and choose faith over fear. Renew my mind, steady my heart, and remind me that You are in control. I place my trust in You today. Amen.
