Lucky or Led

  • Mar 17

Let’s address the green elephant in the room... today is the day everyone suddenly becomes Irish, wears shamrocks, and talks about luck. Lucky charms. Lucky coins. Lucky clovers. Lucky breaks. And while the world is out here chasing luck… I’m over here with a confession. I have always been terrified of leprechauns. Not kidding. Growing up, I hated St. Patrick’s Day. Every teacher in elementary school seemed determined to convince us a mischievous tiny man in green was breaking into classrooms overnight, leaving glitter footprints, flipping desks, and causing chaos. Everyone else thought it was magical. Meanwhile little Amberly was like... “wait… so there’s a tiny stranger sneaking into buildings while we sleep???” Absolutely not. The idea of a tiny man running around with a pot of gold and a questionable attitude was deeply unsettling to me. I didn’t care about the candy. I didn’t care about the green milk. I was simply trying to survive the day without making eye contact with a leprechaun.

But here’s the funny thing. As an adult, I’ve realized something about the whole “luck” narrative. People love to say things like... "wow, she’s so lucky" Or, maybe they say "things always work out for her." But most of the time? It’s not luck. It’s being led. Led through doors that didn’t make sense. Led through seasons that stretched your faith. Led through opportunities you didn’t see coming. Led through moments where God whispered, “trust me.” When people look at someone walking in their purpose, they call it luck. But behind the scenes, there were prayers. There were risks. There were tears. There were late nights. There were moments of surrender. And most importantly… there was God’s hand guiding every step.

The Bible says, "the Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives." Psalms 37:23 Notice it doesn’t say, the Lord randomly blesses people with good luck. It says He directs steps. That means when something works out, when a door opens, when provision shows up right on time—it isn’t luck. It’s leadership from Heaven. God doesn’t deal in luck. He deals in purpose. So if today you see shamrocks, green confetti, and people talking about lucky charms… remember this, you are not lucky. You are led. Led by a God who sees the full map while we’re just walking the trail. And honestly? That’s way better than a pot of gold (also still better than a leprechaun).

SHE Walks in Faith

The next time someone says “you’re so lucky,” smile and remember... no girl. Not lucky. Led. Every "luck" is a gift from God.

🩷 Prayer

Lord, thank you that our lives aren’t left to chance or luck. Thank you that You guide our steps, open doors, and lead us exactly where we need to go. Help us trust Your direction even when we don’t understand the path. Remind us that every blessing is not luck, but Your loving hand at work. Amen.
