Love God First

Most of us don't wake up intending to put God second. It just happens quietly. Life fills in the space. To-do lists. Notifications. Sports. Work. Expectations... the list goes on. The constant pressure to manage, improve, fix, and hold everything together. And before we realize it, our energy is spent reacting to everything around us instead of resting in the presence of the One who holds it all. Loving God first isn't about perfection, it's about priority.

Scripture is clear about where love is meant to begin. "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind. Not because God demands it, but because He knows what happens to us when we don't. • you feel spiritually dry but can't pinpoint why

None of these make you a bad Christian, they make you human. But they do reveal how quickly we let other things take priority over God. Loving God first isn't about trying hard, it's about re-centering. Choosing Him again, and again, anddd again. Over and over. In the small, ordinaly moments. Letting Him lead before everything else tries to.

When we love God first, our priorities shift. Our identity becomes rooted instead of fragile. Our peace becomes steady instead of circumstantial. Our worth stops rising and falling with outcomes. Loving God first doesn't mean we get to ignore our responsibilities or pretend life isn't hard, it means choosing where your trusts rests before the day (or even the world) tries to claim it. It means anchoring your heart in truth. Coming to God as you are—not cleaned up, not confident, not certain, just willing. God isn't waiting for a better version of you. He's asking for the one you are right now.

It took me a hot minute to realize something... you can believe in God and still move through life on your own, sure. BUT living through Christ, a game-changer. Because living through Christ shifts how you see, respond, and surrender. When God is first, everything else finds its place. Relationships become healthier, decisions become clearer, and even difficult seasons feel different—not easier, but steadier, and hopeful. With God in your corner, there's light at the end of every season. Loving God first is a daily choice. Sometimes it looks like prayer. Sometimes it looks like surrender. Sometimes it looks like obedience when you don’t understand. And sometimes it looks like simply pausing long enough to remember who you belong to. But every time you choose Him first, you’re choosing life, peace, and alignment, even when the rest of the world is pulling you in a hundred different directions.

Pay attention to your first instinct today. Is it worry? Control? Comparison? Self-reliance? When you notice it, pause and redirect...“God, I choose You first in this moment.” Let Him define your worth, direct your steps, and steady your heart. Trust that when He is first, nothing essential is missing.
