God Isn't Playing Hard to Get

Guess what, God is not in heaven like "hmm... let's see if she triple-texts me." He's not waiting to see if you pray hard enough, cry long enough, spiral deep enough, or even go to church enough before He answers. He is not emotionally unavailable. He is not sending mixed signals. He is not leaving you on “read." God is not playing hard to get. You don’t have to chase what is already chasing you.
And can we talk about dating for a second? Remember when someone told you... "don't respond too fast, wait at least 20 minutes. Act busy, make him chase you." No you didn't do that, just me? In high school I'd sit there staring my phone... typing a response, then deleting it, then retyping it, then calculating how long it's been since he texted back. Honestly, I was trying to appear effortlessly unbothered while internally running a full FBI investigation. Absolutely exhausting. Playing hard to get requires strategy. It requires withholding. It requires pretending. And some of us have accidentally projected that same energy onto God. We think, "maybe He’s being quiet to test me. Or maybe I need to try harder, maybe I haven’t done enough yet.” Truth is, God does not flirt with your heart. He does not breadcrumb your faith. He does not withdraw affection to increase His value. He came toward you first.
Scripture says, "we love each other because he loved us first." 1 John 4:19 First. Not after you got it together. Not after you proved yourself. Not after you stopped messing up. First. That doesn’t sound like Someone playing hard to get. That sounds like Someone pursuing. We treat God like He’s hiding behind a bush in heaven saying, “come find me if you can!” I'm guilty of it too.
Meanwhile, the Bible says, "surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life." Psalms 23:6 Follow. That means it’s behind you. Pursuing you. Tracking you down like a divine Amazon package with overnight shipping. 😉
Let me ask you a question, do you ever get exhausted from striving? Exhausted from trying to prove you're worthy. Exhausted from thinking if you just had the perfect attitude, the perfect faith… maybe then He’ll show up. What if I already told you He's there, waiting for you. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Not your bad week. Not your doubt. Not your insecurity. Not your messy middle. You do not have to try to get His attention. You already have it.
Before you ever opened your Bible (or even if you haven't), before you ever cleaned up your act, before you ever got “serious” about your faith… He was already pursuing you. So if you feel like you’re spiritually hustling, pause. What if instead of chasing, you just turned around? What if instead of begging for closeness, you believed you were already held? God is not playing hard to get. He’s playing committed.
And you don’t have to chase what is already chasing you.
SHE Walks in Faith
I will stop striving for what has already been secured.
I will stop overthinking God’s love.
I will stop treating heaven like it’s playing games with me.
I will rest in the truth that I am pursued, not tolerated.
🩷 Prayer
Lord, forgive me for chasing You like you’re distant. Forgive me for thinking I have to perform for Your love. Help me rest in what’s already true—that I am wanted, pursued, and chosen. Teach my heart to stop striving and start receiving. Remind me that You are not hard to get. You are near. You are intentional. You are committed. And I am Yours. Amen.
