Small Wins Count

  • Mar 23
  • 3 min read

There's something about this time of year... March Madness energy. Every game matters. Every possession count. Every point... matters. And here's the thing, a win is a win. It doesn't matter if a team wins by 1 point... or dominates by 30, it goes in the record books the exact same way. A win is a win.

And guess what? The same is true for you. It's easy to think growth has to look BIG, dramatic, or even noticeable. Like... I should be further along, this should feel bigger, or maybe you're even asking yourself why doesn't this look like a breakthrough? But God is sitting there like... I'm celebrating the fact that you showed up.

That...

  • you chose peace instead of overthinking

  • you drank water and ate lunch instead of skipping meals

  • you prayed instead of spiraling

  • you got out of bed when it felt hard

  • you took a walk

  • you sent the email

  • you rested your body when you needed to

Thos are wins. Heaven doesn't measure like the world, and God isn't keeping score based on how impressive your growth looks. He's looking at your obedience, your heart, and your consistency.

"Do not despise these small beginning, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin." Zechariah 4:10 This verse is God gently correcting something in us... our tendency to overlook small progress. God is basically saying, “I’m not disappointed in small starts. I’m delighted by them.” He doesn’t roll His eyes at your slow growth. He doesn’t wait until it’s big to celebrate. He rejoices the moment you begin. Not finished. Not perfect. Just… started.

And just like in March Madness… some victories are:

  • Buzzer Beaters - the kind that come down to the very last second. Real life: You almost lost your patience, almost spiraled, almost gave up—but at the last minute, you chose peace, you said the prayer, you held it together.

  • Messy - not pretty, not polished, not social media-worthy. Real life: You cried, you doubted, you felt overwhelmed—but you still showed up, still got through the day, still kept going.

  • Unexpected - you didn’t think you had it in you. Real life: You handled something better than the “old you” would have. You responded with grace instead of reacting. And you surprised yourself.

  • Barely Made it Through - no energy, no strength, just survival mode. Real life: You got out of bed. You ate something. You made it to work. You kept your faith when you felt weak.

... and they still count. You don’t need a “blowout win” to be proud of yourself. Growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet, steady, and sacred. And those small, faithful steps? They are building something stronger than you can see right now. Keep going!

PS - who do you have going all the way? My championship game is Arkansas vs. Duke, and Arkansas walking away with the championship! 😉

SHE Walks in Faith

Today, instead of focusing on what you haven’t done… write down 3 small wins. Even if they feel tiny.

I'll go first...

  1. choosing peace and prayer over panic

  2. showing up even when it's hard

  3. giving myself grace

🩷 Prayer

Lord, thank you for reminding me that I don't have to earn big moments to be growing. Help me see the beauty in small steps, quiet progress, and everyday obedience. Teach me to celebrate what You celebrate. Even when it feels small... let me call it what it is—a win. Amen.
