Do Good Anyway

Some days it feels easier to keep your head down and mind your business. To stay quiet. To scroll past. To say, “that’s not my problem,” and keep moving. Especially when life already feels full. When you’re tired. When you don’t have the energy to care about one more thing or one more person.

We're all guilty of seeing a need and immediately thinking about how inconvenient it would be to help. Sometimes I tell myself someone else will step in. Or that I don’t have enough time, energy, or emotional capacity to get involved. Doing good sounds simple—but living it out can feel messy, uncomfortable, and costly. Because doing good doesn’t always come with recognition. It’s rarely efficient. It often interrupts our plans. It asks us to slow down, show up, and care when we’d rather protect our peace. And sometimes, it feels like more effort than it’s worth—especially when no one seems to notice.

There are moments when doing good looks small. A text you almost didn’t send. A kind response when you wanted to snap back. Choosing patience when you’re already running on empty. Helping someone when it would be easier to say no. These choices don’t feel dramatic—but they matter.

Proverbs 11:25 says, “the generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” I love this reminder because it flips the script. Doing good isn’t just about what we give away—it’s about what God restores in us along the way. When we choose generosity, kindness, and compassion, God meets us there and renews what feels depleted. Have you ever done something for someone else and felt good about it afterwards? That's God restoring you!

Doing good isn’t about fixing everything or being everything to everyone. It’s about faithfulness in the moments God places in front of us. It’s choosing kindness over convenience. Compassion over comfort. Even when it costs us something. And the beautiful part? God sees every single act of good—especially the ones no one else applauds. He sees the effort. The intention. The quiet obedience. And He honors it in ways we may never fully understand this side of heaven.

So if you’re feeling tired of showing up… tired of caring… tired of trying to be kind in a world that often feels harsh—don’t give up. The good you’re doing matters. Even when it feels small. Even when it feels unseen.

SHE Walks in Faith

Where have you felt tempted to hold back from doing good lately? Need a push, here are some ways to do good today/this week.

  • Send a text you've been putting off

  • Hold the door, offer a smile, or say a genuine "thank you"

  • Compliment someone

  • Pray for someone the moment they cross your mind

  • Check in on someone who might feel forgotten

  • Write a handwritten note

  • Bring coffee to someone unexpectedly

Remember, doing good doesn’t have to be big, loud, or perfectly timed. It just has to be faithful.

🩷 Prayer

God, help me live with open hands and a generous heart. When I feel tired, distracted, or overwhelmed, remind me that You are the source of my strength. Use even my smallest acts of kindness to bring refreshment—to others and to me. Amen.
