When Prayer is Still

Let’s talk about something we don’t always say out loud. Sometimes… prayer feels quiet. Not peaceful quiet. Not “wow, I feel the Holy Spirit moving” quiet. I mean the kind of quiet where you finish praying and think, “okay God… did You hear me?” We pray for guidance. We pray for answers. We pray for healing. We pray for direction. And sometimes our prayers feel… still. No lightning bolt clarity. No neon sign in the sky saying “THIS WAY.” Just silence.
And if we're honest, that silence can make us wonder things we’re almost afraid to admit.. Did God hear me? Does He care? Am I praying wrong? But here’s what we have to hold onto... God’s quiet is not God’s absence. Sometimes the stillness of God is not Him ignoring you—it’s Him inviting you to trust Him. Scripture reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalms 46:10 Notice something interesting about that verse. It doesn’t say be busy. It doesn’t say figure everything out. It doesn’t say panic when you don’t hear an answer. It says be still. Stillness requires trust. Because when God is quiet, our instinct is to start filling the silence ourselves. We start Googling answers. We start asking everyone for advice. We start trying to force doors open that God might be gently keeping closed. But sometimes God is quiet because He’s working in places we cannot see yet. Behind the scenes. In other people’s hearts. In circumstances still unfolding. In timing that isn’t ready yet. Silence does not mean inactivity.
Think about seeds planted in the ground. For weeks, nothing appears above the surface. But underground Roots are growing. Life is forming. Something powerful is happening that no one can see. Your prayers can feel like that. You may not see movement yet. But God is always moving. And sometimes the quiet seasons grow the deepest faith. Anyone can trust God when the answer comes immediately. But trusting Him when the room feels silent? That is where real faith grows. Faith says, even when I don't hear You, I trust You.Even when I don't see the plan, I believe You're working.Even when the prayer feels still, I know You are not. Because God has never once ignored a prayer whispered in faith. Not one. He hears the loud desperate prayers. He hears the quiet exhausted prayers. He hears the car ride prayers. He hears the “Lord I don’t even know what to say anymore” prayers. He hears them all. And sometimes His quiet is simply Him saying, “keep trusting Me. I’m not finished yet.”
So if you’re in a quiet season right now… keep praying. Not because the answers are instant—but because the One listening is faithful. And one day you may look back and realize something beautiful, God wasn’t silent. He was preparing something better than you imagined.
SHE Walks in Faith
If prayer feels quiet right now, don’t let that stop you from showing up. Keep talking to God.Keep trusting His timing.Keep walking forward in faith. Sometimes the most powerful prayers are the ones whispered when we feel unsure. And sometimes the quiet seasons become the ones that grow the strongest faith. God is still listening. Even in the stillness.
🩷 Prayer
Lord, sometimes I struggle when I don’t hear Your voice clearly.Help me trust that Your silence is never Your absence. Teach me to rest in Your timing, even when I don’t understand it. Give me faith to keep praying, keep believing, and keep trusting that You are working behind the scenes of my life. Remind me that You hear every prayer—even the quiet ones. Amen.
