Spur on One Another

Encouragement is powerful, yet often overlooked. In a world that moves quickly and values independence, it’s easy to assume people are fine—or that someone else will speak up. But Scripture reminds us that encouragement isn’t optional in the life of faith. It’s part of how God designed us to grow together.
Hebrews 10:24 says, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works." Notice the wording—think. Encouragement requires intention. It doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we choose to notice, to speak, and to show up. To spur one another on doesn’t mean pushing harder or demanding more. It means walking alongside someone and reminding them of who they are. It means pointing others back to love when they feel discouraged and toward good works when they feel weary.
Many people carry quiet burdens. They show up faithfully, serve consistently, and remain obedient even when it’s hard. On the outside, they appear strong. On the inside, they may be questioning if what they’re doing matters. Encouragement becomes the reminder they need to keep going.
Words have weight. They can either drain or strengthen, discourage or uplift. God calls His people to use their words to build—to offer hope, affirmation, and truth when it’s needed most.
Spurring one another on often looks simple:
A kind word spoken at the right time
A prayer offered without being asked
A reminder that faithfulness matters, even when results aren’t immediate
A presence that says, “you don’t have to walk alone”
Faith grows best when it is shared, supported, and spoken aloud. Encouragement strengthens not only the one receiving it, but also the one giving it. It reminds us that God is still at work—in us and through us.
When believers choose to encourage one another, they reflect the heart of Christ. They create spaces where faith can grow, hope can be restored, and love can be lived out.
SHE Walks in Faith
Take a moment to reflect on who God may be placing on your heart today. Ask God to help you be intentional in spurring others on—toward love, toward faith, and toward the good works He has prepared.
Someone who feels unseen
Someone walking through a difficult season
Someone stepping out in obedience
Someone faithfully serving without recognition
Someone who encourages others but rarely receives it
🩷 Prayer
God, thank You for the gift of community. Help us be people who build one another up and speak life where it is needed. Teach us to encourage with love, to spur one another on with grace, and to reflect Your heart in all we do. Amen.
