Armored for the Winter Storm

It’s honestly so exciting to see where you’re reading from. We have friends here from Kentucky (obviously), Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and all the way out to Arizona—and I still can’t quite believe it. And for those of you I don’t personally know, I just want to say this... I see you! I’m so glad you’re here.
And with all of us spread out across different places, it’s safe to say that about 90% of us are currently armoring up for a winter storm. We head to the grocery store, fill our cars with gas, grab candles, charge our electronics, drip water from the sinks—all the things. We prepare ahead of time because we know what’s coming. But that’s not quite the armor I want to talk about today. There’s another kind of preparation that matters just as much, if not more. The kind that steadies your heart, protects your mind, and equips you for the unseen battles of everyday life. Let’s talk about the armor of God.
Ephesians 6:11 tells us "put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil." Ephesians goes on to say, God doesn’t send us into our days unprepared. He equips us intentionally—piece by piece—not to overwhelm us, but to steady us.
The belt of truth holds everything together. It reminds you who God is and who you are before the noise of the world has a chance to speak. When lies, comparison, or doubt creep in, truth keeps you grounded.
The breastplate of righteousness guards your heart. Not because you’re perfect, but because you belong to God. It protects you from carrying guilt or shame you were never meant to hold.
The shoes of the gospel of peace prepare you to walk steadily, even when the ground feels uncertain. Peace doesn’t remove challenges, but it keeps you from being shaken by them.
The shield of faith is what you lift when fear or uncertainty comes flying your way. Faith doesn’t ignore reality, it trusts God in the middle of it.
The helmet of salvation protects your mind. It reminds you that your identity is secure, your future is held, and you are never walking alone.
And finally, the sword of the Spirit—the Word of God. A sword not for fighting people, but for standing firm. Scripture gives you something solid to hold onto when emotions rise and clarity feels far away.
Armoring up spiritually isn’t about expecting the worst—it’s about being ready for whatever comes. Just like preparing for a storm brings peace of mind, putting on God’s armor brings steadiness to your soul. Some days it looks intentional and focused. Other days it’s a simple prayer whispered under your breath: God, cover me today. And that is enough.
So yes—by all means, armor up to sled, build a snowman, or enjoy a cozy snow day this weekend. Stock the snacks. Wear the boots. Make it fun. But don’t forget to armor up in your faith, too. Because snow melts, power comes back on, and the storm eventually passes, but the peace that comes from being spiritually covered carries you long after the weekend ends. In all seriousness, y’all—stay warm, stay safe, and take care of each other. I’m so grateful we get to walk this faith journey together, no matter what state we’re reading from.
SHE Walks in Faith
Before stepping into today, ask yourself... am I prepared for the visible, and the invisible? Choose to put on God’s armor and move forward with confidence, peace, and trust. You are equipped, protected, and deeply seen.
🩷 Prayer
God, thank You for meeting me right where I am. Help me put on Your armor today—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word. Cover my heart, steady my mind, and guide my steps. Amen.
